Q: What is brasher’s guarantee
A: All brasher products are guaranteed for one year.
Q: My boots have developed a fault. Can I send them back to you direct?
A: In the unlikely event that your brasher product has developed a fault within a year of purchase you should return them to the retailer that you bought them from who will be able to resolve most issues.
Remember to return your products to the retailer in a clean and dry state. If after a year of purchase your brasher product develops a fault please return them to a brasher stockist who should be more than happy to carry out a goodwill inspection.
Should you have any queries or need advice on any of the above please do not hesitate to contact Jason Ward in our Aftersales Department on 0191 516 5654
Q: How do I clean my boots?
A: Your boots will last longer if you clean them after walking. Take out and rinse the footbeds, rinse inside the boots to remove debris and then wash the outside of the boots in cold water. Wipe away surface water and allow to dry naturally. Treat leather boots and shoes with brasher Conditioning Cream, nubuck/suede/fabric boots and shoes should be treated with brasher protector spray. Remember, never expose footwear to direct heat as this will damage the upper materials and mid sole.
Q: How do I clean my poles?
A: Trekking poles should be dried out after a day on the hill. After use in wet weather, take the sections apart to dry them off. Make sure not to bend the pole when it’s extended beyond the stop marker as this damages the locking mechanism. To reassemble two sections, close the expansion plug together over the screw head and then insert into the upper pole section. Regularly check that the basket at the bottom of the pole is firmly attached.
Fit
Q: How do I know if my boots are the right size?
A: Comfort is all important when walking, purchasing the correct size of boot will go a long way towards many miles of pain free walking. We would always recommend getting your boots fitted by a professional at the time of purchase.
In addition, wearing good quality walking socks, such as those in our own range will help to keep your feet at the appropriate temperature and deal with the moisture produced during your walk.
If you wish to check the fit of your boots at home there are two methods we would recommend.
1) Fully loosen the laces on your boots all the way down. Whilst wearing your normal walking socks stand in your boots and push your feet forward until your toes are at the end. You should now have enough room to place your index finger between your heel and the boot, this should be easy but snug.
2) Remove the footbeds from your boots and place them on the floor. Again wearing your normal walking socks position your heel at the back of the footbed and stand on it. You should have approx 10mm of footbed showing past your toes (about a fingers width).
Both of the above methods are a guide to help you achieve a good fit.
Further adjustment can be achieved by using our 3mm volume adjusters under the existing footbed, this can help to reduce heel lift and remove unwanted volume. By replacing our standard 5mm footbeds with 2.5mm footbeds you will also be able to increase the volume in tighter fitting boots.
Q: How long do brasher boots take to break in as I am suffering bad blisters?
A: If your boots have been fitted correctly, you should be able to wear them straight from the box without any problems. Blisters indicate an issue with fit, and depending on where the blisters are located, your boots could be either too big or small.
Q: Do you offer any advice on alternative lacing systems?
A: There are many lacing techniques that can help to improve fit and comfort. If you would like firther information on this please use our enquiry form. Alternatively there are many good resources that can be found by searching the web.
Q: After walking I get a burning pain under the ball of my foot. What can I do?
A: Matatarsalgia is a general term for pain or aching in the metatarsal, or ball area of the foot. This is usually caused by over stress to the ball area or wearing tight fitting shoes/hose. Tight fitting footwear prevents the natural stretching of the toes and can cause abnormal downward pressure when bearing weight. A volume adjuster may help to cushion the foot. Alternatively, we recommend the use of sorbethane insoles which have extra cushioning.
