I’ve heard reports of snow on the hills this month and so it is time to dust off last year’s winter kit and get prepared for the cold snap. This year I’m going to use the brasher Aso GTX again as my main winter boot. This B1 crampon-compatible boot doesn’t flex your credit limit as badly as similar designs, yet its performance on the hill seems as good as the best of them. I love the well-stiffened sole and upper, which provide support as well as the all-important ability to kick steps. The lug pattern on the sole is very aggressive too, and ideal for crunching through snow without slipping and sliding. It is a little heavy at 2270g (pair, size 11) and I’d like a slightly smoother rolling action when walking, but at this price you can’t complain too much, as its great value for what you get.
Verdict an ideal year-round boot at a great price
